Bluebird Blues
I foundĀ baby bluebirds dead on the ground and nest not disturbed, female not around but male still sits on house daily. Shall I remove the nest so he flys away to get another mate. This is so pathetic to watch him sit there.
I have a wren nest approx. 50 feet away–could that be culprit?

After experiencing the lost of her nestlings in this manner, generally the female bluebird will not be back. The problem is definitely the wrens. Wrens are noted for this kind of activity. Wrens will enter other cavities and most always kill and drop the nestling on the ground. Wrens are very territorial when nesting and will destroy all other nestlings within a 2 to 5 acre area of their nesting site. Wrens are a protected species, so handle this situation carefully. I recommend moving the the bluebird ‘s nest box away from the area because this will only occur again.
